How to shorten your curtains
This guide will help you easily hang and, if needed, shorten your curtains for a perfect fit.
Whether you prefer hooks or a curtain rod with loops, and whether your curtains need hemming—just follow the steps below.
Curtain hanging instructions
There are two ways to hang the curtains:
With hooks
Using loops on a curtain rod
Option 1: hanging curtains with hooks
- Prepare the Hooks
Take the hooks out of the bag. - Attach the hooks
Attach a hook approximately every 10 cm for the best result.
Insert the sharp end of the hook through the top two slots of the curtain tape and push it all the way through.
Option 2: hanging curtains with loops
Simply slide the loops at the top of the curtain onto a curtain rod.

Optional: winkle effect
For a more even distribution and a fuller look, you may gently gather the fabric to create a pleated effect.
Shortening the curtains with iron-on hem tape
1. Measure the length
Measure from the top of the curtain rod to the floor or windowsill.
Subtract 2 cm if you want the curtains to hang just above the surface.
Add 10 cm to this final measurement for the hem.
2. Mark and cut
Mark the fabric at the measured length using fabric chalk or pins.
Cut off the excess fabric.
3. Attach the hem tape
Place the iron-on tape on the back side of the fabric where the hem will go.
Press with an iron (setting 2, no steam) for 5 seconds.
4. Cool off
Let the fabric cool, then remove the protective strip from the tape.
5. Fold the fabric
Fold the fabric over to form the hem and press firmly again with the iron to seal.
6.Ready
The result is a perfectly hemmed curtain with a clean 10 cm edge.
Optional: You may finish the hem using a sewing machine for added durability.
